Where Art
Takes Root

Afritheatre Collective advances the performing arts sector through five core program pillars. These initiatives nurture artists, produce powerful performances, generate knowledge, and expand access to theatre and storytelling across communities.

What We Offer

Arts program in action

Programs Built for Artists

Together, these pillars form an integrated ecosystem that supports the growth of African theatre from creation and performance to research, professional development, and community impact.

AfroChoral Voices

AfroChoral Voices celebrates the richness of African musical traditions through choral performance, vocal training, and collaborative music productions. The program brings together singers and performers to create dynamic choral works that blend traditional African sounds with contemporary performance expression. Through concerts, theatre collaborations, and community performances, AfroChoral Voices strengthens the role of music as a powerful storytelling and cultural expression tool.

Storytelling Productions

Storytelling Productions is Afritheatre’s flagship platform for developing and presenting compelling theatre productions rooted in African narratives and contemporary social themes. The program brings together actors, directors, designers, and writers to create bold and engaging stage works that explore the human experience while celebrating the depth and diversity of African storytelling traditions. Productions are presented through theatre seasons, festivals, touring performances, and collaborative artistic partnerships.

Research & Publications

Research & Publications focuses on documenting, researching, and publishing work that contributes to the development of African theatre and storytelling. Through research projects, essays, books, and creative documentation, the program supports critical reflection on theatre practice while preserving important artistic knowledge for future generations. This initiative also encourages collaboration between artists, scholars, and cultural practitioners working in African performance.

Artist Pathways

Artist Pathways is Afritheatre’s professional development program designed to nurture emerging and mid-career theatre practitioners. Through mentorship, workshops, residencies, and performance opportunities, the program equips artists with the skills, networks, and practical experience needed to build sustainable creative careers. Artist Pathways fosters the next generation of storytellers, performers, and theatre-makers across Africa.

Cultural Research

Kuza Jamii; meaning “nurturing the community” , is Afritheatre's community engagement initiative that uses theatre and storytelling as tools for social dialogue, empowerment, and cultural participation. Through outreach programs, community performances, educational workshops, and collaborative projects, Kuza Jamii brings the transformative power of the arts to schools, communities, and public spaces. The program strengthens connections between artists and communities while promoting creativity as a force for social change.
